Mission

A new paradigm is envisaged using biological rules and bioinspired approaches to develop materials for resilience, adaptability, and energy harvesting to enhance materials sustainability and broaden the educational mission around academic convergence and global engagement.

In particular, our mission is

  • To develop materials with enhanced sustainability based on biological rules and bioinspired approaches
  • To collaborate through a convergent approach that brings together disciplines in physical, materials, environmental sciences, engineering, and chemistry
  • To add a global dimension to the mentoring and education of students, postdocs, and early career researchers by engaging in research exchange opportunities
  • To advance research through mutual use of world-class infrastructures

Vision

The vision of LiMC2 is to

  • Be a leading example for collaborative multidisciplinary research with strong international partnerships
  • Develop and deploy new living multifunctional materials systems
  • Support high risk/high payoff research through a convergent approach to research
  • Create and nurture a community of young researchers
